Battlefield Builder: modular 3D printable wargaming terrain
Battlefield Builder is a Townsmith product: a browser-based generator for modular wargaming terrain meant for 3D printing. You stack ruins, pipes, railings, and industrial pieces into a playable table, then export STL files you can slice and print.
It is built for grimdark, sci-fi, and industrial battlefields, not for drawing a 2D map. The thing you take away is physical terrain that miniatures can fight over.
You can try Battlefield Builder in the browser without buying a starter pack. Saving and sharing layouts uses an optional free account. Asset packs, software access, and the wiki live on Townsmith.
What is Battlefield Builder?
Battlefield Builder is software for assembling the 3D terrain you put on a wargaming table. You pick modules from Townsmith battlefield themes, lay out ruins and industrial structures in the browser, and download an STL.
That is a different job from a campaign map or a virtual tabletop scene. Those tools help you play online or print a paper map. Battlefield Builder helps you print stacked, playable 3D terrain.
Who it is for
- Wargamers who want custom grimdark, sci-fi, or industrial tables instead of a single pre-made STL
- Hobbyists who print multi-level ruins, pipes, and railings
- Makers who want printable STL files they can slice on a desktop FDM printer
- People who already use Townbuilder and want the matching battlefield workflow
How it works
Open Battlefield Builder in a web browser. Drag models onto the build plate, or use dedicated tools to sketch ruins, pipes, and railings faster than placing every piece by hand.
Switch floors to build vertical play surfaces. When the layout is ready, download it as an STL. You can also overlay a battle map while you build.

Dedicated battlefield tools
Ruins, pipes, and railings have their own tools so you can block in large structures quickly, then refine the layout with the shared select, move, and paint tools.
3D printing and STL workflow
The export path is STL. Slice it in the software you already use. Battlefield Builder is not a slicer and not a print farm. Merchant licenses are separate if you need commercial print-and-sell or digital distribution.
