Townbuilder: 3D printable fantasy building generator

Townbuilder is a browser-based tool for customizable fantasy buildings meant for 3D printing. You assemble towns, dungeons, and interiors from modular models, then export STL files you can slice and print for D&D and other tabletop games.

You can try Townbuilder for free in the browser by making an account.

What is Townbuilder?

Townbuilder is software for making the actual 3D building you put on the table. You pick pieces from Townsmith terrain themes, lay out rooms and streets in the browser, and download an STL.

That is a different job from drawing a dungeon map or staging a scene for Foundry or Roll20. Those tools help you play online or print a paper map. Townbuilder helps you print terrain that miniatures can stand on and walk through.

Who it is for

How it works

Open Townbuilder in a web browser. Choose models from the packs you own (or explore with the free-to-try builder). Place walls, floors, and roofs, then use caster tools to block in rooms, roofs, and stairs faster than piece-by-piece clicking.

Group parts, add pegs or magnets between floors, and filter the catalog by category, name, or theme. When the layout is ready, download it as an STL. You can also import your own STL files and overlay a battle map while you build.

Building customization

Customization is the point. You are not stuck with a single pre-exported house. Move, rotate, scale, and mirror models. Combine them, swap pieces, and generate rooms, roofs, and stairs from the catalog.

Themes are sold as Townsmith asset packs: desert towns, hillside burrows, industrial steampunk districts, feudal Asian temples and manors, plus medieval, dungeon, and many other sets in the shop.

3D printing and STL workflow

The export path is STL. Townsmith documents Townbuilder buildings as support-free for typical tabletop printing. Multi-color / filament-separated export is available on many packs.

Slice the STL in the software you already use. Townbuilder is not a slicer and not a print farm. Merchant licenses are separate if you need commercial print-and-sell or digital distribution.

Playable interiors

Townbuilder is built for interiors as well as street fronts. You lay out floors, rooms, stairs, and connecting pegs so a printed building can open up for play instead of being a hollow shell with no inside.

How Townbuilder differs from other tools

Map apps optimize for a picture of a dungeon. Printable-terrain editors optimize for physical parts. Townbuilder sits in the second group, with the Townsmith modular catalog rather than a generic CAD scene.
