Townbuilder - Getting Started

This chapter will give you a good overview of how you can get started with the Townbuilder. We guide you through the process of creating a simple building and show you how you can share it with the world!

Account You can open Townbuilder in the browser without an account and place models from every asset pack. Create a free account to save, share, and download buildings after the packs they use are unlocked.

Step 1: Enter the Townbuilder

To begin building, head over to Townbuilder. There you will be greeted by an empty build plate and a lot of buttons. For now, you can ignore most of them and focus on the model menu on the right side.

In the model menu, you can find all assets to use inside the Townbuilder.

Step 2: Create a basic layout

To load a model into the builder, click on the image of the model you want to use or drag it onto the empty build plate. If you click on any model, it will always spawn at the center of the build plate. If you drag it, the model will follow your mouse and will be placed where you drop it.

Once the model is loaded, you will see it highlighted in orange. This means it is selected. While a model is selected, you can move it around by pressing the WASD keys and rotate it by pressing Q or E .

You can select any model by clicking on it.

You can now drag out any number of floors and move them into position to create the basic shape of your building!

If you find creating a layout tedious and want to do basic stuff more quickly, check out the Room Wizard.

Step 3: Add Walls

You can switch between different model types using the buttons on the left side of the menu on the right. Click on the 'Walls' button.

Now repeat Step 2 to place walls around your floor layout. We recommend using 2-square-wide 'Wall A' wherever possible. To fill gaps and get more variety in your buildings, you may use 'Wall IA'.

Step 4: Add Doors and Windows

To add doors, switch to the 'Door' type and add an entry to your building.

Then switch to the 'Window' type and place those as well.

You can also change most walls you already placed into doors and windows using the Context Menu.

Step 5: Add a Roof

Now that our ground floor is done, let's add a roof. To do so, you will need to add a second floor to your building. You can do that by clicking expand_less at the bottom of the screen or by using the hotkey ⇧ W .

Now you should see that the grid has moved up and is sitting above your walls. Creating a roof by hand can be quite difficult, this is why we have created a Caster to help you with that!

Please look at the buttons on the left side of the screen. This is the toolbar. Please click on the button to change to the Roof Warlock.

Once the Roof Warlock has finished loading, click and hold on one corner of your building's corners and drag to the diagonally opposite corner. The Roof Warlock will now generate a roof for your building. Accept the roof by clicking done .

Step 6: Party and Share

Congratulations, you did it! You have created your very first building with Townbuilder! To celebrate this achievement, how about creating a link by clicking the share button and sending your building to your friends, your loved ones, and your estranged uncle that just added you on Instagram.

Your building may look a bit plain and empty, maybe even a bit chaotic with different materials for the ground and first floor. But don't you worry, we have solutions for all of that!

We recommend reading the Basic Controls and Tips chapter next!
