Upload Artificer

The Upload Artificer enables you to upload your own STLs and use them in Townbuilder! It also has a battle map feature that allows you to overlay images onto the floor plane, making it easy and fun to recreate your favorite maps.

"We don't offer it? Just add it yourself! "

Upload Types

At the top of the right side menu, you can find the three upload types we offer.

Icon Name Description STL Upload your custom STLs to the Townbuilder. They will be added as Attachables (Only you can see them in the Townbuilder). Image Upload an SVG, PNG, or JPG and turn it into a 3D model. Saved as a private Attachable under Your STLs. Battle Map Upload an image to overlay our floor plane.

Initially, the Upload Artificer will be configured to upload STLs.

Battle Map Upload

By clicking on the upload icon you can select an image file from your computer. You can select a new one at any time to replace the current image.

With the opacity slider, you can adjust the opacity of your battle map, or how "see-through" it is.

With the visibility icon, you can hide the battle map completely, the flip icon allows you to mirror the image and the grid_on icon allows you to reset the map back to the grid.

The inputs below allow you to transform the battle map, either by entering numbers into the coordinate inputs, or by using the move, rotate, and scale controls in the scene.

STL Upload

By clicking on the upload icon you can select an STL file from your computer. Once you select a file this button will be replaced by the file name. If you want to upload a different STL, drop or click again to replace it.

Upload Options

Once you upload a file, it might be offset from the grid, rotated, or even incorrectly scaled. We offer a couple of options to make your life easier:

Name Description Functionality Z-Up If your STL is oriented with the Z-Axis pointing upwards, check this box to align the STL to the Townbuilder's Y-up axis system. Rotates the STL by -90 degrees in the X Axis Imperial If you are working in the Imperial system and expect our grid to be 1 Inch wide, check this box to scale your models properly. Internally scales the geometry by 0.984251969 Half grid offset The origin of the Townbuilder sits in the center of each grid square. It can be beneficial to align your model's origin to our grid, if you want to do so, check this box. Sets the STL to X:12.5, Z:-12.5 Move origin This will delete any baked-in offsets from your STL and move its X, Y, and Z such that the model is centered on the Townbuilder origin and its lowest point touches the floor. Applies the inverse of the bounding box's matrix to the STL

Align Box

If these options are not what you need, you can also manually align your STL. You should see your STL in the scene surrounded by a red box with spheres on its corners.

If you click and hold on any of these squares you can snap the model to the grid (depending on the snap you have set in the bottom bar.)

Once you are happy with your STL's alignment, you can click the check icon or hit enter. Now you will be able to transform your STL like the battle map, using the 3D controls.

Name and Set Under the options in the right menu, you can also rename your STL (This will only change the name that is displayed in the Townbuilder later and will not modify the file on your computer). You should also select a set. Sets are thematically sorted categories that we use to filter the menu. For example, The sets 'Wood', 'Fachwerk', 'Shingled', 'Stone' make up the Theme 'Medieval'. You can select one of our sets or create your own custom sets here. They can be managed via your profile . Thumbnails and Saving When you are happy with the position, rotation, and scale of your STL, you can save it and use it in the Townbuilder! To make sure that you can properly identify your STLs later on, you can check the Screenshot Area box next to the save button. It will show you which area of the screen will be used as the thumbnail. If you have your own custom image that you would like to use for your uploaded file, you can change this thumbnail via your collection in your profile . You can find your uploaded STLs in the model menu , under the type 'Your STLs' at the bottom of the type buttons. Loading and Editing Below the save button you can see all your existing STL uploads. By clicking on them you can load them and edit them, changing their position, rotation, etc. Once you click save you will be asked if you want to create a fresh thumbnail or keep the existing one.

Image Upload

By clicking on the upload area you can choose an SVG, PNG, or JPG from your computer. It is converted into a 3D model and can be adjusted with the same positioning options as an STL upload. When you save it, it becomes a private Attachable under Your STLs.
